National Germplasm Bank of Main Tree Speceis for Non-Timber Products in North China

 “National Germplasm Bank of Main Tree Speceis for Non-Timber Products in North China” was established by sanction of State Forestry and Grassland Administration in 2016, which becomes a key platform for long-term breeding researches in the study field of non-timber forest in China. The bank covers a total area of about 2000 mu. Systematic functions of this germplasm bank focus on collection and preservation, evaluation, directional breeding, implementation of varieties breeding and high-efficiency silvicultural experiments.

The germplasm bank is well-equipped with a 2450 m2 laboratory, a 1600 m2 auxiliary room for scientific use, a 1700 m2 intelligent greenhouse, and a 3800 m2 ordinary nursery stock breeding greenhouse. It is also equipped with roads, electric power supplies, irrigation systems, security walls and full coverage monitoring system.

At present, it preserves more than 5000 copies of non-timber forest germplasm resources, including Eucommia, apricots for kernel use, diospyros, almonds, Prunus, and Chaenomeles sinensis. Aiming at various breeding goals, the germplasm bank preserves more than 600 copies of Eucommia ulmoides, kernel apricot, persimmon, almonds fine clones, excellent germplasm and special germplasm. There are 57 of them has been identified as improved varieties.
